There are 90 children at the orphanage that we are helping support. We were able to supply the new construction site with a filtration unit that will be able to produce up to 5000 gallons of clean water a day for these children. The kids ages range from 2 to 22 years old. We stayed at the the original orphanage this week with the kids. The lady that runs the orphanage is named Maud. She is truly an angel and I am not sure how she manages all of the kids.
She has the older kids take care of the younger ones and the system is actually set up really well. It is like a huge family. The kids are very well behaved and so happy to have a home and food everyday.
The conditions in Haiti are rough and it is a struggle for her to care for all of their needs so she was so grateful that we came to bring them clean, safe water to drink.
While the kids are waiting for their new home to be finished we provided them the Sawyer PointONE Water Filters and taught them how to use them. This was so much fun. Maud gathers the kids all around and talks to them about what we are doing. Then we demonstrated how it works and she puts some of the older kids in charge to clean it.
We were so glad to be a part of such a special group of kids and give them the gift of clean water to drink.
