Our Coastal Visit this Weekend!
So Stef and I were able to go to the coast and visit the community Puerto El Morro. We got in late in the evening on Sunday night and so we weren't able to visit Crucita and her family until the following morning. We spent Sunday night eating fresh Watermelon on Marlene's porch overlooking the bay. I was especially glad we had come back in their low insect season. Quite relaxing since Stef had our Raid bottle confiscated at the airport. Ah, security systems!
So anyways, we got up bright and early on Monday morning. We walked up the steep hill to Crucita's house and greeted the community people as we went. I was so thrilled to see the beautiful house that was built with so much love for Crucita and her family. We knocked at the door and were greeted by Crucita and her happy children. I literally couldn't believe it when I saw Yaquier. He looked like a completley different child. I didn't recognize him. He looks so much healthier. His little face has filled out more and he looks bigger and taller. He was so aware when we talked to him. It was an amazing miracle to see! For all of you that had a part in his recovery and possible life saving medical visits, thank you! This is the reason we are here doing this work. What a beautiful day!!! Crucita says he is back to eating normal and he needs only a little more medical treatment and he will be okay. Wow! What a blessing for Stef and I to witness and be a part of this. Thank you all for your support for little Yaquier and his family. They continue to tell us how thankful they are.
So as we were getting ready to leave Stef pulled out of her bag a very blue stuffed monkey. Now for as long as I have known her she has tagged this little special monkey along with her as company. I know it is strange but we love her anyways. So the history of funky monkey is that it was born in Orlando, Florida and it has traveled to New York, Miami, New Hampshire, Portland, Maine, Palestine and has lived in Fort Myers, Florida. In all that to say this is a special monkey. So she pulls this bright blue monkey out of her bag and asked Crucita if she could give it to Yaquier as a gift. I was so moved by this because I knew how special funky monkey was to her.
The people and the work here is so important to Stef and I. The people and children become molded inside of our hearts and there are faces of some that we will never forget.
